Payson and the surrounding areas range from 5000 to 7000 feet in elevation; the Valley is under 1200. July is the Rim area's hottest month, with temperatures reaching the low 90s and lows hovering just below 60 degrees. Average highs in November through March range from 53 to 63 degrees; lows range from the mid-20s in the winter months to the 50s during the summer. Rainfall peaks during the late-summer monsoon season and usually totals 21 inches for the year. Especially appealing to a lot of transplanted Arizonans is the Rim's promise of four distinct seasons. Daytime temperatures in Payson are typically 10 to 15 degrees cooler than Phoenix. At 5,000 feet the city of Payson enjoys nice, mild summers. Winters are cool with some snow.
